Register Online:

Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer Foundation announces a new format for Birmingham’s favorite indoor event for research, MOVE TOWARD A CURE. MOVE TOWARD A CURE is a 3-hour event designed to engage and encourage more people in the community to participate. You don’t have to be a runner or athlete or an ovarian cancer survivor or family member – each one of us can make a difference in the lives of many.

MOVE TOWARD A CURE is a meaningful and high energy group indoor event that places participants in an open space together sweating and cheering for a common cause – a cure for Ovarian Cancer. Participants will enjoy experiencing the dynamic environment created when people come together to raise funds for the important cause of supporting ovarian cancer research. All funds raised from the event will be given for Ovarian Cancer research in Birmingham.

How to get involved?
The community can get involved in a number of ways, including participating for 1, 2, or 3 hours by walking/running, engaging in a personal training challenge, riding a stationary bike or a mixture of all 3! You can MOVE TOWARD A CURE as an individual or as a team.  We encourage you to bring your friends and family to the event to cheer you on or have them sleep in as you MOVE TOWARD A CURE.

Registration: Participants can register as individuals or as part of a team and can participate for any increment between 1 and 3 hours.  Each participant pays a tax-deductible registration fee and pledges to raise funds for ovarian cancer research.

Benefits:  Every dollar raised from Move Toward a Cure goes to further research and awareness of ovarian cancer. Every dollar makes a difference in the lives of so many.

New 5K Start Line Corrals:
What is a “Start Line Corral”?
The start line corral system allows for a smooth race start for participants of varying athletic abilities. You should choose a corral based on your estimated pace / finish time which will allow you to start with other participants of similar running or walking pace. Everyone who has paid the extra $5.00 will receive a timing chip, the corral system will not affect the timing of your race as your actual race time will not start until you cross the starting mat. Look for the following signs on race morning to ensure you are in the appropriate corral.

Start Line Corrals Signs (based on finish time)
• RUN 21:45 minutes or less / 7minute per mile pace or faster
• Walkers only

The “RUN 21:45 minutes or less” Corral will be a roped off section and will have volunteers assist with entry into this corral.
Runners expecting to finish the 5K with a finish time greater than 21:45 should line in behind the roped area.
Walkers will line up behind runners.

NOTE: If you are participating with a stroller and/or children, we ask that you keep your children with you at all times and that you start from the back of the “WALK ONLY” corral. This will allow your family members, and our other participants, a safer race experience.

How to wear your Bib Number and Timing Chip:
5K participants (that paid the $5 extra) will be Chip Timed to process race results and your 5K finish time will be posted for you to see. [Click Here] to see details on how to wear your Bib-Tag Timing Chip. Please wear your Bib Number on the FRONT of your shirt during the race. [Example] Remember to bring your Bib Number Race day. Race Information:

Fort Payne, AL – Jacksonville State University and the Little River Canyon Center is pleased to announce its 5th annual half marathon set to be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016.

Possibly one of the most scenic half marathons in the country, the certified course loops 13.1 miles on paved roads, starting and ending at the Little River Canyon Center.

To start at 8:00 am, the first five miles of the run will follow the Little River Canyon National Preserve’s incredibly scenic and sometimes challenging rim of the canyon, as the remainder winds through gently rolling farm country including Randy Owen Drive and his famous Tennessee River Music Hereford and Angus cattle ranch. Randy and Kelly Owen are often on hand at the 6 and 8 mile water station pitching Fig Newtons, energy GU and drinks but this year they’ll add a necessity. According to Kelly “Yes runners, we’ll have a port-a-potty”.

The half marathon will feature five water stations, music, ample law enforcement, shirts, trophies, finishing metals, and much more. Proceeds go to outdoor education programs and local conservation efforts at Little River Canyon.

Camp Smile-A-Mile’s Mission:
Camp Smile-A-Mile’s mission is to provide year round challenging, unforgettable recreational and educational experiences for young cancer patients, their families as well as young adult survivors from Alabama at no cost to the families. Our purpose is to provide these patients, families and survivors with avenues for fellowship, to help them cope with their disease, and to prepare them for life after cancer.

About Camp Smile-A-Mile:
Camp Smile-A-Mile (Camp SAM) was established in 1985 to serve the children of Alabama battling cancer while also being a source of support for their families. Starting with a single, week-long camp that welcomed patients of all ages, Camp SAM has grown to include year-round programming and seven camp sessions each summer. We are the only pediatric oncology camp in the state to offer such extensive programming for the entire family. In addition, we have developed a scholarship program for campers attending universities and vocational schools. Camp SAM’s office is located in Birmingham and neighbors Children’s of Alabama. Camp SAM’s permanent campsite for summer sessions is located at Children’s Harbor on Lake Martin. Children’s Harbor donates the use of their facility. Since its inception 30 years ago, Camp SAM has steadily expanded its reach, now welcoming more than 450 campers from throughout the state each summer. Hundreds more children and their families participate in our other year-round programming. Camp is free-of-charge to the families and transportation is provided from Children’s of Alabama to the campsite. Camp Smile-A-Mile is a 501(c)(3) organization.
